Eight Local Residence Earn New Karate Belts

On Wednesday, May 4, 2011 the Passage of Knowledge Martial Arts Center held their spring rank promotion.  Eight students from Montpelier - Shelby Skidmore, Bailey Cline, Kitana Klowetter, Myles Cline and sisters Haley, Jamie and Emily Howell participated in the rank promotion.

A rank promotion is where the Karate students that have trained for enough time are eligible to test for their next rank.  They are judge by a promotion board that determines if they are both physically and mentally prepared to be honored with a higher rank.  Rank is typically signified by a certificate as well as a belt of varying colors.

The rank promotion lasted about two hours. There where three physical elements of the promotion.  The first consisted of Karate students performing basic techniques such as punching, kicking, and blocking.  The next was the demonstration of self defense techniques.  The final physical element was performing Kata.  Kata is a serious of martial arts techniques that are executed continuously in a specific pattern.

Throughout the promotion the Karate students were asked questions.  The purpose of the questions was to test their mental knowledge and understanding of the material they were being tested on.

The Passage of Knowledge Martial Arts Center is proud to announce that on May 4, 2011 the following students earned and were promoted to their next rank - Shelby Skidmore, Bailey Cline, and Kitana Klowetter were promoted to 7th KYU Blue Belt.  Myles Cline was promoted to 8th KYU Orange Belt.  Tessa Smith, Haley Howell, Jamie Howell, and Emily Howell were promoted to 9th KYU Yellow Belt.

Congratulations to all students for a job well done!
